Seeing my Students at a Point of Realizatioin and Inspiration is the Ultimate Sign of Success for MeMisa Hylton
Misa Hylton is hip-hop fashion’s renaissance woman. In addition to being the mastermind behind some of Hip Hop & R&B's most iconic fashion moments- from trend setting artists such as Lil Kim, Mary J Blige, and Missy Elliott, to the runways of Kimora Lee-Simmons and Sean Combs’ fashion lines. Misa’s impact on the culture is undeniable. One need look no further than Lil Kim's notorious custom-designed wardrobe (and exposed, albeit adorned breast) for the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. Over the last two decades, Misa’s endeavors in styling, design, retail, education, and philanthropy have solidified her as a bona fide cultural icon.
As for Misa’s experiences in fashion, she has inhabited nearly every conceivable role. Misa has styled runway collections for major lines, such as Baby Phat and Sean John, and has served as the creative director for Nelly's denim line Apple Bottom, which became one of Oprah Winfrey's "Favorite Things.” Misa’s unique sense of style has graced the pages of preeminent publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vibe, InStyle, Essence and Paper Magazine. It has also lead to television appearances including MTV’s “House of Style” “BET’s 106 and Park” and E!’s "Grammy Awards Fashion Wrap With Joan & Melissa Rivers." Misa has styled for powerhouse corporations Pepsi, Amazon, the NFL and Proctor and Gamble. She has even earned the prestigious title of Fashion Editor for The Source Magazine. Her innovative ideas about making personal computers an accessory earned her the title of fashion technology consultant for Microsoft. In 2004, Misa stepped into the world of television and film as a costume designer, adding to her formidable arsenal of skills. Ever evolving, Misa is making her unique and coveted style available to the public, via her brand Madison Star and online boutique madisonstarcouture.com. Misa has done it all with style and grace.
Misa’s drive led to the creation of Chyna Doll Enterprises, a fashion firm providing clients with services ranging from styling and artist development to personal shopping and image consulting. Her entrepreneurial spirit has guided her in developing the concept for numerous endeavors, culminating in the establishment of the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy in 2012. Throughout her 24-year career in the industry, Misa has groomed a multitude of stylists, many of whom are responsible for crafting the images of some of today’s hottest and most memorable stars such as Lauryn Hill, Teyana Taylor, Rihanna and Alicia Keys. Through this experience, Misa discovered her passion for sharing her expertise and educating aspiring stylists, providing a new generation of up and coming stylists not only with the practical skills needed for success, but also the knowledge and frame of reference necessary to achieve excellence in the field of fashion styling. In 2014, her love of supporting others in achieving their goals inspired Hylton to obtain her certification as a life coach, advocating for others to gain mastery over their destinies. Misa attributes her nurturing nature to her experience as a devoted mother to three beautiful and talented children, Madison, Niko, and Justin, her eldest child, whom she shares with Sean Combs.
Misa has truly taken to heart the words of one of her idols, Maya Angelou: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
